“The Problem of Execution of ECtHR’s Judgments in Greece: The Bekir Ousta and Others Group of Cases”

25 February 2021

14:00-15:30 (CET)

Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe(ABTTF), in partnership with Western Thrace University Graduates Association(WTMUGA) and Greek Helsinki Monitor(GHM), have the pleasure to host an online panel discussion on the Problem of Execution of ECtHR’s Judgments in Greece with the special focus on the Bekir Ousta and Others Group of Cases v. Greece.

The discussion will focus on the execution of judgments Bekir Ousta and others group of cases v. Greece (application No. 35151/05), which concern violations of the right to freedom of association (Article 11) in 2007 and 2008 due to the domestic courts’ rulings not to register associations (Bekir-Ousta and Others and Emin and Others) and a decision leading to the dissolution of an association (Tourkiki Enosi Xanthis and others) on the ground that their aim was to promote the idea that an ethnic Turkish minority existed in Greece.

To this day, applications of the three associations have still not been re-examined by domestic courts on their merits in the light of the Court’s case law almost thirteen years after the European Court’s judgments. Two of the present associations remain unregistered and one dissolved, without a Convention compliant examination of their cases by the domestic courts to date.
