AN INTERVIEW HELD ON TECHNIQUES TO COPE WITH EXAM STRESS

The Vocational Promotion and Guidance Branch, operating under the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association, held a talk on “I’m Learning to Cope with My Exam Stress” for senior high school students on Friday, January 20 and Wednesday, January 25.

The interview was held in two sessions in line with the demands of the students. In the interview, which aims to prepare the students psychologically for the upcoming university entrance exams, besides the theoretical information, practical methods of coping with anxiety were explained.

In the event, firstly, theoretical information about the concept of “anxiety” was given. Afterwards, the differences between fear and anxiety were explained. In addition, the causes of anxiety, the factors that increase anxiety, the effect of parental attitudes, the role of negative thoughts, what can be done to reduce anxiety were discussed.

After the theoretical part, methods such as breathing exercises, basic relaxation exercises, and visualization techniques to keep the feeling of anxiety under control were explained. Afterwards, the students were made to learn the mentioned techniques by practicing. The conversation ended with a short motivational speech about being successful in the exams.
