The Vocational Promotion and Guidance Branch operating under the Western Thrace
Minority University Graduates Association introduced the profession of doctor to
high school students on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Dr. Selma Giroglou participated in the
introduction as a speaker. Our speaker, who provided information about medical
education, stated that information is given about healthy bodies in the first three
years of 6-year medical education, and about the treatment of sick bodies in the
remaining 3 years. Our speaker, who stated that health comes to mind when the
medical department is mentioned, stated that medicine has both a preventive and a
therapeutic aspect. She also explained that medicine offers the opportunity to work
in the field of scientific research in a laboratory environment in addition to treating
patients in the clinic. She emphasized that being a doctor requires dedication, and
requires constant self-renewal, research and reading, not only during the education
process but also in professional life. Our speaker, who provided information about
medical branches and exams, touched on the importance of knowing English and
using computers. Finally, she explained what a master’s and doctoral education can
provide a doctor.
The talk ended with answers to questions from students.
