The Vocational Promotion and Guidance Branch, operating within the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association, made a presentation titled “Social Media and Image Perception” within the framework of Personal Development Workshops for students on February 23, 2024.

In the presentation prepared by high school senior students named Fatma-Betul Aydogmuş, Humeyra Kasayka and Meryem Deli Memet, the issue of how social media affects young people and society through images was examined. The presentation started by explaining how the phenomenon of image creation was born historically. Afterwards, the words simulacrum and image were defined. Students stated that people create images for themselves in order to be accepted, so young people can emulate celebrities on social media. The student speakers gave examples to better understand the subject, and also showed a short film explaining how people’s mental health deteriorates in an effort to create an image. The meeting, in which the participating students actively participated by expressing their opinions, ended with comments on the results.
